The 147 pioneer students admitted into the foundation school and degree programmes of Hensard University, the only private institution in Bayelsa State, have received grants of N400,000 each to cover some of their expenses as the 2023/2024 academic session commences at the end of this month.
A statement yesterday by the public relations officer, Chief Sony Neme, said the vice chancellor, Prof Dileep Kumar, urged the students to familiarise themselves with the environment and the university’s rules and regulations.
He said that a two-day orientation of the pioneer students will hold on April 29 and 30, 2024, adding that academic activities would start immediately after the two-day orientation programme.
“Most of the pioneer students are on partial scholarship to cover their tuition fees.
Only last week, one of the partners of Henry Seriake Dickson Foundation, which established the university, gave each of the pioneer students grants of N400,000 to cover some of their expenses,” Prof Kumar stated.
He also disclosed that the foundation is working on more grants for the students, saying that “In line with our mission and vision, we are pleased to announce that Hensard University is set to walk its talks, as an institution with a difference.
“Our vision is to be a top-tier academic, research and entrepreneurial university, producing ethical and responsible students and professionals who are committed to sustainable development.
“Hensard University places a high value on the development of the whole person through character formation, leadership development, and instilling in students a solid spiritual basis for growth based on each student’s faith, belief and conviction.
“Hensard University, licensed by the National Universities Commission (NUC) in June 2023, has 30 accredited degree programmes in its five faculties – Arts, Social Science and Management, Agricultural Science, Science & Computing, Communication and Media Studies, and Environmental Sciences.”
