15 Dead, 32,000 Homes Damaged In Katsina Flood – SEMA

At least 15 individuals lost their lives, and 32,000 houses were ravaged due to flooding across several local government areas in Katsina State.

Additionally, 3,094 persons were displaced, and 21,481 sustained injuries from August to early September.

The executive secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Binta Hussain Dagani, disclosed these while speaking with journalists in Katstina State.

According to Dagani, flooding has damaged 32,542 houses across 32 local government areas in the state. The most severely affected areas include Dutsinma, Daura, Kaita, Katsina, and Batagarawa. Furthermore, Funtua, Malumfashi, and Musawa local government areas have also been impacted by the floods.

She announced that the distribution of palliatives donated by the Bank of Industry to flood victims commenced in Katsina on Thursday, adding that relief materials from the state government, including cash assistance, building materials, and infrastructure, are scheduled for distribution next week.

The SEMA executive secretary also stated that the agency has submitted a comprehensive report to the state government detailing the statistics of victims, damages, affected areas, and casualties for further action.
