The final of the football competition at the 15th Biennial Police Games (BIPOGA), “Asaba 2026”, will take place today, Saturday, at the Stephen Keshi International Stadium, Asaba main bowl.
Zone 10, Sokoto, and Zone 4, Makurdi, will compete for the gold medal.
To reach the final, Zone 10, Sokoto, defeated Zone 2, Lagos, 1-0 in the first semi-final, while Zone 4 overcame Zone 8, Lokoja, to secure their place.
In the Karate events, a total of 64 medals have been awarded.
Zone 5 dominated the Karate events, securing almost half of all the gold medals available. Zone 5 won 7 gold, 3 silver, and 2 bronze medals, demonstrating clear superiority over the other zones in this discipline.
In the female individual Kata, Rita Edejor from Zone 5 claimed the gold medal, followed by Zainab Abdusalam from Force Headquarters, who won silver. Dorcas Samuel from Zone 14 took the first bronze medal, with Jumai Apata from Zone 7 securing the second bronze.
For the male individual Kata, Edward Shinyi from Force Headquarters earned the gold medal, with Suleiman Shittu from Zone 11 taking silver. The bronze medals went to Samuel Tunde from Zone 5 and Emem Udoh from Zone 6.
Zone 5 won the gold medal in the female Team Kata, while Zone 7 secured silver, and Zones 14 and 17 shared the bronze medals. Zone 6, however, won the male Team Kata in grand style, taking gold, with Zone 10 earning silver. Zones 11 and 7 were good enough to claim the two bronze medals.
In the Kumite 50kg category for females, Offor Mercy from Zone 5 took home the gold, Smart Ebi from Zone 16 won silver, while Abiuty Anieken from Zone 6 and Balogun Oluwakemi received the two bronze medals.
Meanwhile, on the overall medals table for the 15th Biennial Police Games, Force Headquarters leads with 137 medals, comprising 65 gold, 42 silver, and 30 bronze. They are closely followed by Zone 2, Lagos, who have won 109 medals (35 gold, 35 silver, and 39 bronze), while Zone 9, Umuahia, has 41 medals (22 gold, 16 silver, and 3 bronze) in their tally.
All is now set for the closing ceremony of the 15th Biennial Police Games in Asaba.
The ceremony is expected to be attended by President Bola Tinubu, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, top police hierarchy including the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun, officers from various police commands and formations, as well as contingents from 17 police zones and Force Headquarters Abuja.
The event will feature musical performances by the police band and a march past by zonal contingents and Force Headquarters.
