Katsina State Governor Dikko Umaru Radda yesterday welcomed a delegation of 17 foreign diplomats who arrived the state to witness the 2026 Durbar Festival in Katsina and Daura emirates.

The delegation, led by the Ambassador of Belgium, Pieter Leenknegt, was received at the Umaru Musa Yar’adua International Airport.

Other members of the diplomatic team include ambassadors from Egypt, the Netherlands, Spain, Poland, Switzerland, Slovakia, Argentina and Congo, as well as representatives from Italy, the United Nations and some international organisations.

The governor later led the delegation to the palace of the Emir of Katsina, Abdulmumini Kabir Usman, where they began observing Durbar activities following the emir’s return from the Eid prayer ground.

The visit is part of activities lined up for the 2026 Durbar Festival, an annual cultural event that highlights the rich traditions and heritage of the people of Katsina State.

The diplomats are expected to attend the grand Durbar at the Old Government House in Katsina before proceeding to Daura to witness the Daura Emirate Durbar.

Governor Radda described the presence of the diplomats as a strong indication of growing global interest in Katsina’s cultural heritage.

“We are honoured to receive this distinguished delegation of diplomats who have come to witness our unique cultural heritage. The Durbar is not only a celebration of tradition but also a symbol of unity, peace, and identity of our people,” he said.

He added that the visit would strengthen diplomatic relations while promoting Katsina State as a viable destination for cultural tourism and international partnerships.

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to preserving the state’s cultural values while advancing peace and development.
