18 Trained Chibok Girls Receive Starter Packs, N1m Grant Each

No fewer than 18 freed Chibok school girls have received N1 million business grants in addition to starter parks in Adamawa State.

The Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, announced the support during the graduation ceremony for the girls held in Yola.

Ibrahin said the support is a new life started for 18 freed Chibok girl graduands in vocational training.

She added that each of the 12 Chibok girls who got degrees from the American University of Nigeria (AUN) Yola earlier this year would also have N1 million as personal development grants.

The minister handed the starter packs and money to the beneficiaries who were all present at the ceremony held in the Modibbo Adama University, Yola.

The minister said the Federal Government wishes that after the unfortunate incident of 2014, the government wants to have the Chibok girls truly move on.

“This is why we are giving them the opportunity to aspire to greatness and to achieve it,” she said.

The managing director of the Modibbo Adama University Consultancy Services, Prof Ibrahim Danjuma who coordinated the training of the girls, urged them to go ahead and be Nigeria’s Alakijas and Dangotes.

Chairman of the Abducted Chibok Girls Parents Association, Yakubu Nkeki, thanked the Federal Government for sponsoring life improvement education and training for the girls.

Also, the chairman of Chibok local government area, Umar Haure, asserted that despite the incident of 2014, girls in Chibok did not stop going to school.

“We are education-loving people; our girls are going to school,” the council chairman said.

One of the newly trained Chibok girls who spoke at the ceremony on behalf of her colleagues, Hauwa Muntel, said they are grateful that they are having promising new lives.
