$1trn Economy: Gov Mutfwang Calls For Local Production To Drive Industrialisation

Plateau State governor, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, has applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for laying a strong financial framework to build a $1 trillion- economy for the prosperity of Nigerians.

Mutfwang made the commendation during the public presentation of two books authored by Dr Yakubu N. Gambo, Nigeria’s Ambassador-designate to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The event was held at the Auditorium of the National Open University, Abuja.

In a statement issued in Jos by the director of Press and Public Affairs to the Governor, Dr. Gyang Bere, said the books titled “African Economic Community and the Challenges of Integration” and “Revenue Sharing and Resource Allocation in Nigeria: Contemporary Issues from 1954–2007,” explored the dynamics of African integration and the complexities of revenue allocation in Nigeria.

Governor Mutfwang praised President Tinubu for creating an enabling environment for revenue growth and economic expansion.

He noted that Plateau State is laying a solid and enduring foundation for revenue independence from federal allocations, expressing optimism that the state will achieve self-sufficiency and drive industrialisation for the benefit of its people.

The governor, however, expressed concern over the prevailing security challenges in the state.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to tackling criminality, particularly in rural communities and commiserated with families who have lost loved ones in recent violent attacks.

Mutfwang commended the author for his contributions to national discourse on critical economic issues. He emphasised that sustainable peace and equity in revenue sharing can only be achieved by expanding the nation’s economic base.

“We are still largely a consumer economy and have yet to fully embrace production. Much of the tension around revenue allocation stems from the fact that we are sharing the same limited resources. If we do not expand the economic base—if we do not bake a bigger cake—we will continue to face these challenges.

“I therefore salute the initiative of Mr. President to build a $1 trillion economy. We must take deliberate and strategic steps to lay the foundation for economic productivity,” the governor stated.

The chairman of the occasion and former governor of Nasarawa State, Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, in his remarks,  praised the author for his intellectual contribution and also commended President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, describing him as a seasoned administrator and committed democrat.

The book “Revenue Sharing and Resource Allocation in Nigeria: Contemporary Issues from 1954–2007” was reviewed by Prof. Umara Ibrahim, dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Maiduguri.
