A fatal road accident that occurred yesterday at Oloriegbè community, along the Ogbomosho – Oloru road in Ilorin, Kwara State, claimed the lives of two persons.

LEADERSHIP gathered that  12 other persons sustained varying degrees of injuries  in the auto crash.

An official report obtained from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC)   Kwara State Command said the auto crash involved a commercial Toyota Hiace bus and a DAF trailer.

The Kwara State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Muftau Irekeola, who confirmed the incident, attributed the crash to a combination of driver fatigue, speeding and loss of control.

“The crash involved a commercial bus and a trailer. 19 people were involved, 12 were injured, and unfortunately, two people lost their lives,” he said.

He said the commercial bus with registration number BTR 161 XA, driven by one Abubakar Musa, collided with a trailer that had no visible registration number at the time of the incident.

Irekeola said the emergency response teams arrived at the scene within eight minutes of receiving the distress call and promptly evacuated the victims.

He added that the injured were rushed to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH), Oke Oyi, and Arewa Medical Centre, Oko Olowo, for treatment, while the corpses of the deceased were also taken to medical facilities.

He cautioned motorists against reckless driving, especially fatigue and excessive speed, urging them to always ensure they are well rested before embarking on journeys.

He added that strict adherence to traffic regulations remains crucial in preventing avoidable road crashes and loss of lives.
