2 Die As Tree Falls On Commuters In Kwara

Tragedy struck in Ilorin, Kwara State capital on Monday as a branch of a tree fell on people and killed two persons on the spot.

LEADERSHIP gathered that the incident happened at Oke Adini, Sango area in Ilorin metropolis, where commuters were waiting to board commercial vehicles to convey them to their various destinations.

Sources said that seven persons were affected by the incident and were taken to the General Hospital Ilorin for treatment out which two of them died.

The spokesman of the Kwara State Police Command, Okasanmi Ajayi, confirmed the incident.

“Seven persons were affected and rushed to the hospital. Two eventually died and others are still undergoing treatment. Investigation on the case is ongoing. Details of investigation would be made available as soon as it is concluded,” the Police spokesperson said.

Meanwhile, the state government has commiserated with the victims of the incident.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr Amina El-lmam, in a statement, commiserated with the people of Oke- Adini community, assuring the public of government’s continued commitment to their well-being while praying for the speedy recovery of all the injured victims.

She said a team of experts were deployed from the State Ministry of Health to provide emergency care to the victims.

“In a swift response to distress calls received from the Oke-Adini community following the unfortunate falling of a major tree branch on unsuspecting members of the community using the base of the tree as stalls and commuters awaiting the next bus, a team of experts were deployed from the state Ministry of Health to provide emergency care to the victims.

“The team of experts led by the deputy director of Medical Services, Dr Stephen Arigidi, was warmly received at the site of the incident by the duo of the Commissioner for Health, Dr Amina Ahmed El-Imam and the commissioner for Environment, Mal. Shehu Usman, who had arrived earlier at the scene of the incident,” the statement added.
