There was panic in Keffi, the headquarters of Keffi local government area of Nasarawa State yesterday following an explosion in the wee hours of the day.
Two people were confirmed dead in the incident suspected to be a bomb blast.
The explosion, according to sources, occurred opposite the General Hospital, on Nasarawa Road, Keffi.
LEADERSHIP gathered that the suspected bomb went off from a residential apartment in the area, rented by two occupants, killing them in the process.
It was learnt that the occupants who were hardly around, returned from a journey Saturday afternoon.
A source said that hours after their arrival, some operatives of the Department of State Security Service (DSS) surrounded the building.
According to him, the victims may have detonated explosive vests on grenades on sighting the security operatives.
The remains of the victims showed that the explosion cut off the trunk and the arms.
The source noted that many residents who live close to the area fled when the incident occurred.
However, people who were initially skeptical about the development, trooped to the scene of the incident as early as six o’clock when they noticed heavy presence of security operatives.
The source noted that the bodies of the victims have been evacuated from the scene to an undisclosed hospital in the area.
The source also said the scene of the incident has been condoned off by the security operatives after an initial search for evidence.
When contacted, the public relations officer of the state police command said he was in the church and promised to reach out after the service, but yet to do so at the time of filing this result.
