Two students of Federal University Wukari (FUW) in Taraba State, Joshua Sardauna of Economics Department and Obianu Elizabeth of Microbiology Department, who were kidnapped about two weeks ago outside the school premises, have regained their freedom.
The kidnappers who had initially demanded a N50 million ransom before reducing it to N12 million, eventually settled for N700,000 after a series of negotiations with the parents of the victims.
The Head of Information and Protocol of the University, Mrs Ashu Agbu, told our correspondent that the victims regained their freedom at about 10pm on Thursday night.
Agbu admitted that ransom was paid to secure the release of the two students, adding that collaborative efforts of security operatives and the school management also facilitated their release.
Some of the students, who spoke with our correspondent, urged the state and the federal governments to collaborate with the institution’s security team in order to halt future occurrence of the incident.
