2 Nabbed For Child Theft In Bauchi

Operatives of the Bauchi State police command have arrested one 19-year-old Hajara Usman of Ishehi hamlet for allegedly conspiring with 18-year-old Ibrahim Usman of Dugurgama hamlet to steal a new born baby in Misau local government area.

The police said on July 25, 2023, one Adamu Baka, 55, of Galawa area, Akuyam district of Misau local government area reported at Akuyam Police Outstation that unknown persons entered into his daughter’s apartment who recently gave birth and took away the baby.

In a press release issued yesterday, the command’s spokesperson, Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, said upon receipt of the report, a team of police detectives swung into action and arrested the duo.

He said investigation is still ongoing to unravel the motive behind the act.

Wakil said the suspects would be charged to court for the offence at the end of the investigation.

Also, police detectives attached to the ‘C’ Divisional Headquarters arrested four suspected members of the infamous street urchins’ group, ‘Sara-Suka’.

Similarly, on Sunday, July 23, 2023, policemen raided a criminal hideout in Nasarawan Madina Quarters in Bauchi, the state capital after observing an unusual noise in a cave-like part of the area.

They cordoned off the spot and arrested six suspected thugs namely: Babawuro Mohammad ‘m’ aged 20; Nasiru Usman (19), Sadiq Musa (21), Hamza Ahmadu (19), Sadiq Tahir Ahmed (18) and Umar Shayibu (21), all of Madina Quarters and Dutsen Warinje areas of the Bauchi metropolis.

Police preliminary investigation indicated that the suspects were involved in armed robbery and thuggery. The exhibits recovered from them included one long knife and dry leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa.

Wakil said during the interrogation, the suspects confessed to the crimes, adding that efforts have been intensified to apprehend their  fleeing accomplices.

Mohammed also said, “On Saturday 22, July 2023, at about 1830hrs, police operatives attached to ‘C’ Divisional Headquarters on a visibility policing patrol identified and raided a blackspot at Sabon Layi, a suburb of Bauchi metropolis and arrested one Muhammad Abdullahi alias Luwawu ‘m’ of the same address.

“He has been on the police watch list since 2021 for alleged criminal conspiracy, thuggery, causing grievous hurt and attempting to commit an offence to-with culpable homicide,” Wakil said.

“Sometimes in 2021, the suspect criminally conspired with Sani Danfada ‘m’, Manu Maidawa and two others now at large, all of the same address, while armed with machetes and other deadly weapons attacked and stabbed one Mubarak Abdullahi ‘m’ aged 25yrs of Unguwan Sarakuna area on his head and cut-off his left hand from the articulatio-radiocarpea.

“Investigation uncovered that the suspects committed the alleged offence. Muhammad Abdulahi confessed to committing the offence during interrogation,” Wakil said.
