2 Nigerians Face Deportation in India Over Expired Visas

Two Nigerian nationals, including a woman, have been detained in Dwarka, Delhi, India, for allegedly overstaying their visas during a police operation targeting immigration violations.

The two Nigerians were detained under Operation VISTA 1.0, an initiative by the Delhi Police aimed at verifying the immigration status and documents of foreign nationals in the city.

The first detainee, Nwakor Paul Chukwuebuka, who also uses the names Cypril Odigbo and Paul Chukwuebuka Okeke, was apprehended on August 7 in the Dwarka district.

Police document checks reportedly established that his visa had expired, following which legal proceedings were initiated for his deportation and repatriation.

In a separate incident, Aminat Aminu, a Nigerian woman, was apprehended on August 10 after police discovered that she was residing in Dwarka with an expired visa.

Authorities subsequently verified the immigration status of both Nigerians and presented them before the appropriate authority, which issued orders for their deportation and repatriation.

The detentions were part of the ongoing Operation VISTA 1.0, under which police teams conduct checks on the travel and identification documents of foreign nationals to detect visa overstays and other immigration violations.

According to the report, the operation is also aimed at identifying other immigration-related offences and ensuring compliance with India’s immigration regulations.

Police said further legal and administrative action would be taken against the two Nigerians in accordance with applicable laws.
