About 2,000 commercial motorcycle operators in Ondo State have thrown their weight behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, pledging support for his re-election bid in 2027.
The endorsement came under the aegis of the Amalgamated Commercial Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association of Nigeria (ACOMORAN).
Speaking at the endorsement which took place on Tuesday in Akure, the state capital, the state chairman of ACOMORAN , Akinlolu Olumonrin, said the decision followed a thorough assessment of the President’s performance nationwide.
Olumonrin stated that members of the association were convinced that Tinubu remains the best candidate to sustain ongoing programmes and policies across the country.
“We looked into everything he has done in Nigeria and discovered he is the only person who can continue the job so that the programme will not stop,” he said.
He explained that the association had made several efforts to gain visibility and formal recognition in Ondo State, including writing letters and instituting legal action, but recorded no meaningful progress.
According to him, the group later resolved to take its demands to the presidency, expressing optimism that such engagement would yield positive results.
He added “We tried a lot to make ACOMORAN visible in Ondo State, we wrote many letters and even sued the government, but we did not achieve anything. We discovered that if we go through the president, then it may come to reality, that is why we decided to fully support Tinubu for the second time in Nigeria.”
The ACOMORAN chairman also urged members to remain law-abiding, stressing the need for discipline among operators to safeguard their reputation and ensure public trust.
On the rising cost of fuel and general economic hardship, Olumonrin appealed to the Federal Government to address the situation, noting that transport operators are among the worst affected.
“We believe there is hope and that things will improve very soon, but we want the President to help find solutions to the hike in prices,” he said.
Also speaking, the Director-General of the Asiwaju Mandate Group (AMG), Olumuyiwa Asagunla, said the endorsement by the riders would further boost the chances of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
He commended the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, for his interventions, noting that various groups had continued to align with the party in recent months.
Asagunla disclosed that the riders were mobilised following growing confidence in ongoing infrastructure development and improved road networks, adding that the target is to secure overwhelming votes for the President in 2027.
