The Igbo socio-political and cultural Organisation, the Ohanaeze has described the former Vice President Dr Alex Ifeanyichukwu Ekwueme, Ide, as an outstanding patriot whose contributions to the country’s socio political evolution would be indelible.

The President General of Ohanaeze, Chief John Nnia Nwodo, said in a statement on the demise of the first elected Vice President of Nigeria that the country has lost one of the foremost advocates of a restructured federation.

“As Vice President Dr Ekwueme was intellectually forthright, engaging, loyal and outstandingly patriotic.

“As a politician he was courageous and original in his ideas. Ndigbo have lost a genius, a father and an intellectual giant.”

Ohanaeze boss commiserated with his immediate family, friends and associates and Nigeria for the huge loss while urging Nigeria government to immortalize him.

In same vein, the Prof Tunde Adeniran Campaign Organisation, condoled with Ekwueme’s family and the country over the huge loss and underscored the contribution of the late elder statesman to the nation’s democracy.

The director general of the campaign Organisation, Shehu Gabam, who recounted Ekwueme was one of the founding fathers of the PDP, said the former Vice President contributed immensely to the return of democracy to Nigeria.
