Former director FCT Sports Council, Alhaji Sani Abdullahi Lulu, said his appointment by the then minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), ushered in the revolution of sports development in the nation capital city. He stated this at the ‘10th FCT Sports-Award Nite’ held on Thursday at the Executive Hall, International Conference center in Garki, Abuja.

The former president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), who was one of the awardees, said his administration birthed the golden era of sports in FCT and commended the present administration for empowering key stakeholders.

He described the award and reward given to past sports administrators and young athletes who done FCT proud at the last National Youth Games in Ilorin, Kwara State as a welcome development, saying it was an opportunity to reunite the stakeholders and create enabling environment for the youths to contribute to development sports.

“It is an opportunity to reunite the stakeholders and I am sincerely proud of the government of the day. The government has promised to create enabling environments for the citizens and we are clearly seeing the signs.

‘I am overwhelmed by the honour done us and it will serve as encouragement for the youths to continue their best for the country and also create enabling environments for stakeholders to partner with the government to make the society better place for the youths.

‘You can see the enthusiasm and willingness of ex-internationals to join hands with government to develop sports. The present leadership of FCT Sports Council is willing to empower and delegate responsibilities to the stakeholders to carry out the job.

“Government alone cannot move sports forward. We need synergy and relationship among stakeholders.”
