196 Students Lose Properties In Jigawa Hostels’ Inferno

About 196 students have lost their properties to fire outbreak at two different secondary schools within the week in Jigawa State

The affected schools include Science Secondary School Lautai in Gumel local government area of the state where fire razed down  students’ hostel and leading to loss of properties, including books, cloth, mattresses and food items.

Confirming the incident, executive secretary of the Science and Technical School Board,  Malam Haladu Yakubu said, the fire accident happened on Tuesday around 12:00pm when all the students were in the class.

Malam Haladu added that, the accident was caused by electrical fault according to preliminary investigation and no any injury recorded.

Similarly, over 100 students of Takur Commercial Secondary School in Dutse lost their properties in a fire outbnreak, which gutted their hostel.

Confirming the incident, Director-General of of the State Education Inspectorate and Monitoring Unit (SEIMU), Malam Abdullahi Yunusa, revealed that, the accident affected three rooms in the student hostel of the school.

Yunusa stated that the state government had     sent a fact-finding team to the affected schools after the fire service team had put off the fire.

He added that, according to their findings, the accident was caused by electric fault from incessant power outages.

Malam Yunusa noted that, the state government has already directed the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to provide relief materials to the affected students and ensure the situation did not affect their learning.

When contacted on the unfortunate incident, the Executive Secretary of SEMA, Malam Sani Yusif Babura, said the agency has spent over N2.4 million for the provision of relief materials to the students.

According to him, the materials provided to the affected students include two set of uniform, two set of private cloth, books, shoes, mattresses, blankets and food items.

For his part, the emir of Gumel, HRH Alhaji Ahmad Muhammad Sani, has reportedly donated food items and other materials to the victims of Lautai Science School inferno.
