Federal commissioner of the National Population Commission (NPC) Bauchi office Ibrahim Mohammed has said that the conduct of the 2023 population and housing census provides avenue for Nigeria to end poverty and insecurity in the country.
Mohammed stated this when he addressed councillors during the end of a five-day awareness creation programme, organised by the Bauchi State Ministry For Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in Bauchi. He said the 2023 census would be a digital national census.
Mohammed said NPC will engage competent ad-hoc staff for the exercise, for a better performance, saying that the staff would be drawn from the local communities so as to achieve the desired goal.
The federal commissioner called on the participants to step down the knowledge acquired to their host communities, in order to ease the duty of the commission, as the councillors are closer to the people at the grassroots level.
The state commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Abdullrazak Nuhu Zaki, who was represented by the permanent secretary of the ministry, Alhaji Usman Aliyu Kawu said periodic conduct of census is to update records.
Zaki said it was high time for people to understand the importance of the census.
