The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), House of Reps candidate for Dekina/Bassa federal constituency, Kogi State, Usman Austin Okai, has urged Nigerian youths to challenge the nation’s leaders on good governance and avoid being used by politicians for their self interests.

He gave the advice yesterday in Abuja, while speaking to LEADERSHIP, on the sidelines of the ‘Africa Leadership Strategists Award Ceremony’ organised by the Institute of Corporate Governance and Leadership Strategists.

He said, “I call on the youths not to allow themselves to be used as a political tool to subvert the will of the people by the same people (politicians) who have brought this mess to the country, because there is a complete demarcation between governance and the governed.

“We must know what we want and we must understand that the time has come for us to rewrite the history of Nigeria, we must change the tide and ensure that the votes count.”

He added that campaigns must be issue based, and the messages should conform to the laws of the land.

“Campaign messages should be in tandem with the laws of the land, former president Goodluck Johnathan recently spoke against the campaign of calumny, and using social media to defame others because they cannot be traced. These things are common among the youth.”
