The Kaduna State Peace Commission has appealed for cooperation and understanding from citizens in the forthcoming governorship and State Assembly elections slated for March 11, promising to hold stakeholder engagements.
A statement issued by the Executive Vice Chairman of the Commission, Dr Saleh Momale, on Tuesday, commended “the political class for adhering to their commitment to peaceful elections signed on 15th December, 2022.’’
The Executive Vice Chairman commended citizens of Kaduna State for the peaceful conduct of the presidential and National Assembly elections which held last Saturday.
“As the nation awaits the outcome of the elections at various levels, the commission urges the people of the state particularly the youths, party supporters, leaders of political parties and the candidates to abide by the provisions of the law at all times.
“All must eschew all forms of provocation, incitement or non-peaceful reactions arising from the outcome of the elections,’’ the statement advised.
“In general, citizens conducted themselves in an orderly manner, respecting the laid down procedures for the conduct of the elections across the State.
“The commission acknowledges the positive contributions of diverse stakeholders in contributing towards the peaceful conduct of the elections.”
Momale added that key governmentsinstitutions, security agencies, traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil society organisations and the media worked in synergy in ensuring the peaceful and orderly conduct of the elections.’
He, therefore, pleaded with citizens for similar level of cooperation and understanding, adding that “there will be engagements with all stakeholders in the state in ensuring that the elections take place in an atmosphere of peace.
