2023 Elections: Thugs Invade Polling Unit, Destroy Ballot Boxes In FCT

Suspected hoodlums invaded Dagiri Polling Unit by Madam Mercy Road in Gwagwalada Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), destroying some ballot boxes in all the units in the area during the Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly elections.

They were said to have arrived the polling unit during the ongoing voters’ accreditation and voting and chased both the INEC officials and voters away.

INEC Adhoc staff, Itejabi Joe, who spoke with LEADERSHIP said, “Hoodlums were armed and when they came we ran away because the security personnel around were not armed, so we ran away.

“So, when they came, we have no option than to run away and that is why they destroyed some of our properties. If you can see but none of our members is injured. So for now we have accredited more than hundred people.”

One voter was heard lamenting losing her voter’s card during pandemonium that ensued. Others said that whatever happens, they must still cast their votes.

The security personnel who arrived at the scene thereafter appealed for calm and told the INEC officials to continue with the voting as there would be no more problem.
