Kaduna State Senator who represented Kaduna North Senatorial district in the 8th National Assembly and Kaduna State Governorship candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in the 2023 general elections, Senator Suleiman Othman Hunkuyi has said, that with the way things are unfolding, it might be difficult to have a clear presidential winner in accordance to the electoral guidelines on the first ballot.
This is just as he said, no political party big or small should be underrated as surprises could spring up in the 2023 general elections in a free, fair and transparent election.
Speaking with select Journalists at his Kaduna office, the governorship hopeful said since the presidential candidates are being given religious and ethnic colourations, securing 25 percent in 25 states might be an herculean task in the first ballot for any of the candidates.
When asked about the possibility of his party’s presidential candidate Senator Rabi’u Kwankwaso withdrawing for another candidate, he said, “First of all, take it that I am not Kwankwaso, two, take it that I am not speaking Kwankwaso’s mind, neither am I capable of talking for Kwankwaso on that pedestal and on that matter, but I have a position.
“It does not appear that any party today in Nigeria, including NNPP may make it in the first election. There might have to be a runoff. Because the law requires some scores from the total votes cast minimum, in a required minimum number of states apart from simple majority scores.
