A few months after the conclusion of the general elections, some of the casualties of the polls, except the ones that died are still recuperating in various hospitals in Akwa Ibom State, one of the battlegrounds in the dicey contest, which pitted the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), against major oppositions including the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Young Progressives Party (YPP).

In a bid to give hope for life, the director-general of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Y. D. Ahmed, took time off his busy schedules to visit the bedside of one of the victims, a Corps Member, Onuoha Elvis Udodiri, with registration number; AK/22B/2148, who is on admission at the Ibom Specialty Hospital in Uyo, the State capital.

Elvis, one of the ad-hoc officials enlisted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), during the House of Assembly re-run election in the State, LEADERSHIP gathered, was shot and fatally wounded in the leg by gunmen at the village hall, Ikot Eduek Itak, in Ikono local government area of the state.

Commiserating with the victim in the hospital, Brig. Gen. Ahmed, was full of praises to God for sparing the life of Elvis and commended the hospital management “for the prompt and effective treatment being offered the Corps member,” and wished him quick recovery as his patriotic national assignment was not cut short during the polls.
