2023: Tinubu’s Alleged Meeting With Adeboye Won’t Change Anything – CAN

Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) on Tuesday, urged the presidential candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu not to labour himself with further consultation with any of its leaders nationwide with a view to securing their supports for his ambition if he insisted on a Muslim-Muslim ticket.

CAN specifically declared that Tinubu’s meeting with the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christians Church of God (RCCG) towards lobbying the body for support would not change anything in their resolve at rejecting such an insensitive political move.

CAN’s Vice Chairman in Ogun State, Rt. Rev. (Dr.) Solomon Gbetogo Kuponu stated this while speaking in an interview with journalists on Tuesday in Abeokuta, the state capital shortly after the body’s extraordinary meeting held to sensitise members on the need for them to register, obtain their Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) and actively participate in voting at the forthcoming year 2023 general elections.

Kuponu, who was apparently reacting to a meeting allegedly held between Tinubu and Adeboye last Sunday at the RCCG headquarters in Mowe, Ogun State, stated that Tinubu’s choice of a Muslim deputy was insulting to the Christian body which paraded an array of intellectually endowed politicians in their fold.
Speaking at the event, which has in attendance, representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Kuponu said the Christian body does not want a repeat of the Owo Church attack, in which no fewer than 40 people were killed, with over 80 others sustaining varying degrees of bullet wounds .
He lamented the failure of the Federal Government and security operatives to arrest any culprit even till date.
“We all know what is happening. The Christians, who died in the Owo Church attack of June 5, 2022; what were their offenses? Their offense was that they were in the church worshipping. They came there to worship their God, but returned home as dead bodies.”
We don’t want that to continue in Nigeria.
