Inspector-general of Police (IGP) Alkali Usman Baba, has promised to provide peaceful environment for the 2023 general election to hold.

Baba gave the assurance when he commissioned a modern police station at Alum-Inyi, Oji River local government area of Enugu State, adding that there were serious security challenges in the South East.

The IGP, who was speaking on the premise of the Biafra agitation, said Nigerians should coexist with one another, pointing out that if there must be agitation, it can be carried out peacefully.  “Agitation can be carried out peacefully,” he said.

The police chief maintained that instead of agitation, government could be changed through election and as such the security agencies must do everything humanly possible to provide conducive environment for a peaceful election to take place.

“Election is a lawful means of choosing our leaders.  We shall provide a conducive environment for the election to take place peacefully,” he said.
