Flamingos head coach, Bankole Olowookere, has expressed disappointment over his team’s exit from the 2025 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
Olowookere’s side was eliminated from the competition following a 4-0 defeat to Italy in their Round of 16 encounter in Rabat on Tuesday night.
The Flamingos performed well during the match but were let down by their poor finishing.
Nigeria also had a goal ruled out by VAR for offside before Italy took complete control of the game.
Olowookere remarked that it was painful to exit the competition early. “Honestly, it’s quite painful. We came into the game with the mindset of doing something special, ensuring that we win and progress to the next stage,” the coach was quoted as saying by FIFA.com.
“Unfortunately, we held the game for 44 minutes before the painful goal arrived, and it all fell apart in the second half. It’s one of those things.”
