Ahead of the 2026 governorship election in Ekiti State, leaders of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have been urged to unite and work together for the party’s success.
The former PDP national vice chairman (South West), Dr. Eddy Olafeso, who gave the admonition stressed the need for all members to close rank and coalesce efforts towards repositioning the party saying such will help it record victory in future elections in the state.
He stated this in Ado Ekiti, the state capital during the party stakeholders meeting held following the conduct of the Local Government Congress last week to elect new executives across the 16 local government areas of the state.
Olafeso, who maintained that with unity, the party can achieve a lot in the political space of the state said the PDP mission is to salvage the people from poverty and create a new beginning for prosperity.
The PDP chieftain said, “Let us keep faith, let us work together, let us be united, let us be focused, I am definitely sure that this is achievable because our people are really resolute and they are willing to work very hard to ensure that we capture power in Ekiti State in 2026 so that PDP will bring prosperity to Ekiti again.
“Ekiti State will return to PDP in 2026 and our party will restore prosperity to Ekiti again. Let us remain in the party. When it was good we all enjoyed together. Let us be patient until God will do it for us again. God is with us and we will win again. All those who have joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), what have they been able to achieve?”
Olafeso who served as the chairman of the Electoral Panel in the congress hailed the peaceful and successful conduct of the exercise.
He noted that the congress which began with accreditation of members from 8am was followed by voting which started from 9:30 a.m. to 12 noon.
According to him, while most of the local governments elected executives through consensus, a few of them opted for voting and the newly elected executives were inaugurated shortly after.
Olafeso, who expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the exercise said , “The congress was hitch-free. No fighting, no killing, no beating. I am very impressed and grateful for the peace that characterised this Congress across the 16 local government areas of the state and the success we achieved.
“The peace at which our people.have embraced this moment, the energy with which we are rewriting our history, you can see peace radiating in all the local governments, you can see organisation. PDP is trying to deviate from the past . We are a due process party and we want to ensure in everything we do including electing our leaders, we are actually taking into consideration our party’s constitution and guidelines and that is the reason everywhere you have gone with me today you have seen for yourself there is a new beginning that will usher in that moment that the people are waiting for,” he said.
The PDP Caretaker Chairman in Ekiti, Chief Dare Adeleke, expressed delight at the successful conduct of the congress across all the 16 local government areas of the state and commended the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for their support.
