The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has reaffirmed its commitment to significantly improve the welfare and comfort of Nigerian pilgrims, announcing a thorough review of current Hajj operations and a refund of savings from renegotiated feeding costs in Madinah.

The pledge was made in a heartfelt message to Nigerian pilgrims on the sacred Day of Arafat by the Chairman/CEO of NAHCON.

The message reads, “As millions of Muslims gathered on Mount Arafat for the pinnacle of the Hajj pilgrimage, NAHCON extended warm greetings and prayers, emphasising the day’s spiritual significance as a time for mercy, forgiveness, and total submission to Almighty Allah. The Commission highlighted the timeless values of humility, sacrifice, patience, and unwavering faith that the blessed day embodies, urging deep reflection and renewed commitment to righteousness.

“History teaches valuable lessons, and when we fail to learn from them, we risk repeating the same hardships,” the statement read. “But when we reflect on yesterday with wisdom, we are better prepared to build a stronger and more rewarding tomorrow.”

“In line with this philosophy, NAHCON has consistently studied past and present Hajj operations to refine its processes.”

The Commission acknowledged significant progress from “days when pilgrims spent long periods in transit camps awaiting airlift to the more coordinated and efficient Hajj operations we witness today.” Despite these advancements, NAHCON remains conscious that “there is still room for improvement.”

Following the spiritually profound gathering at Arafat, where all of humanity stands equal before the Creator, NAHCON committed to reviewing the operational challenges observed during this Hajj. The aim is to correct identified shortcomings, strengthen supervision, and ultimately better safeguard the interests of Nigerian pilgrims.

The Commission underscored its establishment as a direct response to historical challenges in Hajj administration and pledged to uphold the vision of its founding fathers with dedication and sincerity.

In a tangible demonstration of its commitment, NAHCON announced a successful renegotiation of feeding services costs in Madinah. The resulting savings, the Commission confirmed, “will be refunded directly to pilgrims.”

NAHCON expressed sincere appreciation for the support and understanding of stakeholders, partners, and, especially, the pilgrims themselves. The Commission also acknowledged the critical support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whose “determined leadership and support are responsible for the modest successes recorded in the 2026 Hajj airlift and management,” and Vice President Kashim Shettima for his direction in policy implementation.

As pilgrims prepare for their return journey, NAHCON assured them that “adequate measures have been put in place to guarantee a safe, swift and seamless return.” The message concluded with prayers for the acceptance of all supplications, forgiveness of shortcomings, and a rewarding Hajj for all pilgrims, wishing them a safe return to their families and communities.
