Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has said the forthcoming national convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) affords the party an opportunity to demonstrate unity, discipline, and its commitment to national development.
He stated this at the inauguration of the Media and Publicity Subcommittee for the 2026 National Convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and urged members to ensure effective communication and positive media coverage of the party’s activities.
Speaking at the inauguration in Abuja, Idris, who also serves as co-chairman of the subcommittee, described the upcoming convention as a significant milestone in the life of the ruling party.
“The convention is a significant milestone in the life of our great party as we continue to strengthen internal democracy and consolidate our vision for a united, prosperous and progressive Nigeria,” he said.
The minister highlighted ongoing reforms under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that the APC remains committed to advancing the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Idris emphasised the strategic role of the Media and Publicity Subcommittee, especially in today’s fast-paced information environment where effective communication shapes public perception.
“Your role goes beyond publicity; it involves ensuring accurate information dissemination, promoting transparency, coordinating media engagement, and projecting the process and outcomes of the convention to Nigerians and the international community,” he said.
He urged committee members to approach their assignment with professionalism, creativity, and a strong sense of duty.
Idris outlined the committee’s responsibilities to include content creation, media relations, media planning and buying, liaison with other convention subcommittees, report writing and documentation, media monitoring, performance evaluation, and the overall coordination of media activities for the convention.
Expressing confidence in the committee’s capabilities, Idris congratulated members on their appointment and formally inaugurated the Media and Publicity Subcommittee, calling on them to uphold the highest standards of credibility and integrity.
“By leveraging the media platforms within our reach, we must ensure that the convention is widely and positively covered while upholding the highest standards of credibility and integrity,” he added.
The inauguration marks the official start of preparations by the ruling party for its 2026 National Convention, expected to bring together party leaders, delegates, and stakeholders from across the country.
