The National Sports Commission (NSC) has completed a two-day inspection of facilities in Lagos State as part of the evaluation process for awarding hosting rights for the 10th National Youth Games (NYG) in 2026.

The Commission assessed various venues, including the Elegbata Mini Stadium, Onikan Stadium, TBS Cricket Oval, and Rowe Park Sports Centre, as well as sporting facilities at the University of Lagos, CMS Grammar School, Agege Stadium, and Ikeja Golf Club.

In a statement released on Wednesday morning and signed by the NSC Director of Press, Dr (Mrs) Kehinde Ajayi, she said the Director of Grassroots Sports Department, Mrs Amaka Ashiofu, who led the inspection team, ensured that every detail was meticulously considered during the assessment in accordance with the Commission’s mandate and global best practices.

She emphasised that the inspection of Lagos facilities underscored the Commission’s commitment to the Youth Games as a vital foundation for grassroots development and talent identification.

“The Commission, under the leadership of Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko and Director-General Hon. Bukola Olopade, is resolutely dedicated to sustaining its grassroots development initiatives through the high-quality organisation of domestic sporting competitions. Thus, the significance of this inspection exercise cannot be overstated,” she concluded.

Lekan Fatodu, the Director General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, expressed gratitude to the NSC for their confidence in Lagos State and assured that they will act on all feedback received to ensure Lagos is fully prepared to host the Games if awarded the hosting rights.
