As the race to Osun governorship election in 2026 gathers momentum, the state chapter of New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has presented itself as better alternative to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.

The party said the present pitiable condition of Osun should be a source of concern to every indigene and believed there should be a better replacement for a change of hand if truly Osun will reclaim its leading position in the comity of states.

A statement by the chairman of the party, Dr. Tosin Odeyemi, noted that the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke is nothing but a double jeopardy for the state’s wheel of progress.

According to him, governance has been reduced to jamboree as the state is now being governed by three governors, namely, ceremonial, administrative, and technical.

Odeyemi said to make matters worse, those surrounding Governor Adeleke are bootlickers who are not interested in working for the progress of Osun, rather than what they will amass for personal gains.

According to him, some of the governor’s aides that are ready to work were not put in the right places where their contributions will be meaningful so as not to outshine their boss.

His words: “Expectations were high when PDP was about to take over from APC in 2018, moreso when they had a candidate that people believed is well-to-do enough to even help the state in all ramifications.

“But reversed is the case now. So many promises left unfulfilled. The ruling party is fighting from all fronts as if they are the opposition instead of facing real governance.

“Our collective money is being spent on uncountable aides the state government is rolling out employment letters to everyday, some of which have not stepped the state in the last two years.

“Local government administration has been grounded for almost two months now, yet, the state government is not seeing any reason to tell the truth about the whole matter.

“Billions of naira is being earmarked for Infrastructural Plans despite the fact that many of these projects have been captured in this year’s budget. For how long are we going to deceive ourselves.

“For us in NNPP, we strongly believe that the state of the Living Spring deserves better. We deserve a leader with vast knowledge about governance, an overall leader that knows everything about anything anytime anyday. Osun deserves better than the present governor.

Odeyemi gave assurance that his party will present credible candidate come 2026 adding that Osun deserve to be delivered from the shackle of those political parties that have been tested but not trusted.
