The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has called on residents of the Territory to deepen their support for the FCT Administration (FCTA) as it rolls out major infrastructure and social development projects in the New Year 2026.

In a New Year message to residents Thursday, Wike commended the cooperation of residents in 2025, describing the year as one in which “great strides were made, massive developments accomplished, and seemingly insurmountable obstacles overcome.”

“As we usher in the dawn of a new year, on behalf of the FCT Administration, I extend my warmest greetings of a Happy New Year to the resilient and vibrant residents of the Federal Capital Territory,” the minister said.

He expressed optimism that increased public support would help translate government plans into tangible projects that would improve the quality of life across the Territory, “regardless of social status.”

According to him, the FCT Administration has already laid the foundation for projects in key sectors, including education, health, transportation, agriculture, security, and the judiciary.

“We therefore look forward to commissioning rehabilitated schools, roads, bridges, health facilities, transportation hubs, facilities for the judiciary, security infrastructure, and programmes that will impact FCT residents positively,” Wike stated.

The minister also noted that 2026 coincides with the third anniversary of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, adding that the FCT would mark the milestone by showcasing “tangible developments aimed at transforming the lives of residents favourably.”

He attributed ongoing projects across the territory from Abuja Municipal Area Council to Abaji, Kuje and Kwali to the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

“Through the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda, the Federal Capital Territory has witnessed unprecedented development across the territory,” he said, while also soliciting “more support as we embark on more projects for the people.”

Wike urged residents to uphold the values of diligence, discipline and determination, stressing that they are essential for achieving collective goals. He also called on residents to remain law-abiding throughout the year.

The minister highlighted that 2026 marks the 50th anniversary of the creation of the FCT, describing the golden jubilee as “a testament to the vision of our founding fathers, and to the resilience of Nigerians who have continuously demonstrated the resolve to coexist in peace and unity.”

On politics, Wike described the year as “politically vital,” noting that Area Council elections would hold in the six area councils in the coming weeks, urging eligible voters to participate actively.

“I urge you all to use your votes wisely,” he said, assuring residents that the FCT Administration would ensure the elections are conducted “in a free and fair atmosphere devoid of violence and illegalities.”

He also assured political stakeholders that the territory would remain conducive for political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“Be assured that the FCT Administration will continue to provide an environment conducive for the orderly hosting of all political events,” Wike said.

The minister concluded by urging residents to embrace unity and determination in the new year.

“As we move into this amazing year, let us do so with dogged determination, unshaken faith, and the unity of purpose that never fails to deliver the desired peace, prosperity, and progress that the FCT truly craves,” he added.
