The presidential candidate of the ACAccord Party, Prof. Christopher Imumolen, has withdrawn from the 2027 presidential race and declared his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid, describing the move as a sacrifice made in the interest of national unity and Nigeria’s long-term development.

Imumolen announced his decision in a statement issued on Wednesday, saying he arrived at the decision after wide consultations with political associates, party stakeholders and supporters across the country.
He said while the decision to step down from the race was not an easy one, it became necessary after assessing the country’s political and economic realities and the need to place national interest above personal ambition.

According to him, Nigeria is at a critical stage where leaders and political actors must embrace cooperation and collective responsibility rather than deepening political divisions.

The Accord Party candidate said President Tinubu’s administration had embarked on far-reaching reforms aimed at repositioning the nation’s economy and strengthening critical institutions, adding that continuity in governance would provide an opportunity for the reforms to achieve their intended objectives.

Imumolen said his endorsement should not be viewed as a sign of political weakness or surrender but as a deliberate effort to promote stability and national cohesion.

“I have decided to withdraw from the presidential race and throw my full support behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election,” he said.

He urged members of the Accord Party, his supporters and Nigerians to support Tinubu’s re-election bid, insisting that the country’s progress should take precedence over partisan interests.

Imumolen also appealed to politicians across party lines to put Nigeria first by embracing issue-based politics capable of advancing economic growth, national security and social development.

He maintained that history would judge political leaders by the sacrifices they made for the unity and progress of the country rather than by the positions they occupied.
