A former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Ogbonna Nwuke, has said the political leaders behind the new coalition on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) are not political pushovers.
Nwuke, who represented Etche/Omuma federal constituency of Rivers State between 2011 and 2015, disclosed this yesterday while speaking with LEADERSHIP in Port Harcourt.
He said, “In all, the coalition has notable Nigerians in their midst. The roll call of the who is who politically is something to write home about. It’s not something to dismiss with a wave of the hand.
“A fight by the Tinubu team with this crop of people will not be easy at all. I see competition, I see a stiff fight and I hope we will all see the best of Nigeria’s democracy.”
The former federal lawmaker stated that most Nigerians believe that President Bola Tinubu is steering the nation towards a one-party state despite denials.
Nwuke said, “There has been so much talk about the evolution of a one-party state. The feeling among so many Nigerians is that Tinubu despite denying working against our multi-party democracy may indeed be steering the nation towards a one-party state.
“So, for me, the idea of a coalition that is taking shape sustains our belief in a multi-party system. It means that there will be a powerful opposition that will give the APC a run for its money when the time comes.
“This will not be the first time such a thing has happened in our history. Such an arrangement gave birth to the APC. We are thus seeing movements, first towards ADA and now the ADC.”
