2027: Delta Rep, Predecessor Trade Words Over Alleged Protest

Political controversy has erupted in Delta State over the election into  Ndokwa/Ukwuani federal constituency in 2027.

While the incumbent lawmaker, Hon. Nnamdi Ezechi, accused his predecessor, Hon. Ossai N. Ossai of plotting to sponsor protests against him, Ossai has denied the accusation saying recent calls by various stakeholders, including youths, women, and community leaders, urging him to contest in 2027 were causing Ezechi sleepless nights.

Ezechi, in a statement made available to journalists, alleged that the planned protest was aimed at creating disaffection and undermining his reputation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He described the alleged move as unnecessary, insisting that he maintains a cordial relationship with his constituents and remains committed to effective representation.

The lawmaker warned that such actions, if allowed to materialise, could heighten political tension, threaten peace and security in Ndokwa land, and destabilise the polity.

He, therefore, called on security agencies to remain vigilant and take proactive steps to forestall what he described as an “evil plan,” urging constituents to remain calm and law-abiding.

But Ossai, reacting to the allegation, dismissed the claims as “baseless, misleading, and unfounded,” urging the public to disregard them.

The media team of the former lawmaker accused the incumbent of attempting to manufacture allegations instead of focusing on governance and service delivery, pointing out that no credible evidence had been presented to support the protest claim.

The team stated that the accusations do not reflect reality and were a misrepresentation capable of misleading constituents, except recent calls by various stakeholders, including youths, women, and community leaders, urging the former representative to contest in 2027.

“The calls are spontaneous expressions of goodwill based on my past performance, and not part of any orchestrated political agenda. He has never been associated with sponsoring protests or engaging in actions that could disrupt public peace.”

Defending their principal, the former lawmaker’s camp described him as a seasoned democrat who served the constituency meritoriously for three consecutive terms, maintaining a track record of peaceful engagement, civility, and respect for democratic values.

The media team also accused the incumbent of attempting to manufacture allegations instead of focusing on governance and service delivery.

“No credible evidence had been presented to support the protest claim. Such accusations could themselves incite tension if not properly managed. The allegation could serve as a pretext for actions that may undermine stability in the constituency.”

Reaffirming their principal’s commitment to peace and issue-based politics, the former lawmaker’s camp urged security agencies to closely monitor developments.
