A campaign movement for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu, under the auspices of Renewed Hope for the Elderly, has vowed to secure 24 million votes for the President in the 2027 general election.

The Director-General of Renewed Hope for the Elderly, Dr Bode Olaonipekun, disclosed this at the unveiling of the movement in Abuja yesterday.

He said the target would be achieved through the mobilisation of elderly Nigerians in support of the President’s policies on senior citizens.

Olaonipekun noted that the initiative was established to promote the dignity, welfare and political inclusion of elderly Nigerians who, for too long, have faced neglect, inadequate social protection, poor healthcare, isolation and economic hardship after retirement.

He also acknowledged the growing attention being given to senior citizens under President Tinubu’s administration, stressing the need for the elderly to support his re-election bid.

According to him, through the strengthening of the National Senior Citizens Centre (NSCC), the Federal Government had demonstrated renewed commitment to policies that promote ageing with dignity.

“As Renewed Hope for the Elderly, a campaign movement for the re-election of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as President, we believe these efforts deserve national attention and broad public support.

“Renewed Hope for the Elderly was established because we believe the welfare of older persons should never be viewed as charity. It is a responsibility, a moral obligation and sound national policy.

“Our movement seeks to mobilise elderly Nigerians, pensioners, retirees, traditional leaders, faith-based organisations, professional associations, community groups and families across the federation to support the re-election of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who has, more than previous administrations, placed senior citizens at the centre of national development,” he said.

Olaonipekun further said the group would encourage Nigerians to evaluate ongoing reforms affecting older persons when making democratic choices in the next general election.

He also commended programmes initiated by the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, including gardening, subsistence farming and environmentally friendly initiatives for elderly citizens, saying that such programmes promote income generation, food security, physical activity, mental wellbeing and active ageing.
