Immediate past Governor of Bauchi State, Barr. Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar SAN has purchased the expression of interest and nomination forms of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to contest the state’s 2027 governorship election.
Speaking with Bauchi journalists via telephone shortly after obtaining the forms in Abuja on Thursday, Abubakar said the move demonstrates his commitment to the party’s laid-down procedures and internal democratic principles.
“This step reflects my disciplined adherence to the party’s established processes and my unwavering belief in the internal democratic mechanisms of the APC,” he said.
The aspirant expressed support for the party’s adoption of either consensus or direct primaries but advocated strongly for the consensus option, noting that it would foster unity within the party.
According to him, consensus would help reduce the high cost and logistical challenges associated with direct primaries, while also minimising the risk of post-primary disputes, litigation, and defections by aggrieved aspirants.
He urged fellow contenders to work together in agreeing on a single candidate, stressing that such an approach would prevent internal divisions and position the party for victory in the general election.
“I am confident that this approach will deepen participatory democracy, strengthen party cohesion, and give every member a sense of ownership in the emergence of candidates,” he added.
Abubakar also reaffirmed his loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the leadership of the APC at both national and state levels.
“I reaffirm my profound respect, loyalty, and unwavering commitment to President Bola Tinubu. I also extend my highest regards to the leadership of the party in Bauchi State, its elders, and all recognised leaders whose guidance continues to shape the progressive ideals of the APC,” he said.
He further expressed his appreciation to party stakeholders and supporters for their continued backing, pledging to deliver impactful and legacy projects if elected as the next governor of Bauchi State.
