Niger State farmers under the umbrella of All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) have endorsed the member representing Bida/Gbako/Katcha federal constituency, Hon. Sa’idu Musa Abdullahi and Governor Umar Bago for re-election in the forthcoming 2027 general elections.

Consequently, the farmers purchased the All Progressives Congress (APC) expression of interest and nomination forms for the lawmaker and the governor to enable them participate in the primaries and the general election.

Presenting the nomination form to the lawmaker in Abuja, the farmers stated that, they purchased the forms to show their appreciation for the enormous attention and contribution to agriculture in the state by the lawmaker and the governor.

According to the farmers, the lawmaker is a great asset to all the state farmers. He has engaged in numerous activities of easy farming activities in the state and has single-handedly constructed irrigation facility in Badegi and has gone further to create an expansion in Begi.

They added that, he has created an environment for women in farming, recruited many and sent them for training in IITTA.

In his address, the Deputy National Financial Secretary, Poultry Association of Nigeria and the vice chairman AFAN in Niger state, Muhammed Saba Usman, said, they purchased the forms for the duo to appreciate their track records in agricultural transformation in Niger State.

“So for us we are looking at track records. We are looking at what you are doing as far as agriculture is concerned. I know you can see a lot of transformation and re-engineering of agricultural activities in Niger State, which is being propelled by our former governor, ably assisted by Honourable Sa’idu Musa Abdullahi.

“So, this is a payback period. They’ve done their best for us. We’ve seen the deployment of necessary equipment and farm inputs, ranging from fertiliser to tractors and improved yield for our farmers, which has generated a lot of employment,”Usman said.

He noted that, since the inception of Niger State since 1976, it has never had a Governor who has given emphasis to agriculture like Governor Bago through his agricultural policies.

Also speaking, the Director General (DG) Micro Credit Agricultural Cooperative Agency, Hassana Mohammed, stated that, the agency was created by the governor because of his interest for women to be fully engaged in agriculture.

On his part, the vice chairman of AFAN Niger state, the national president of All Green Farmers, Dr Nura Hashim said they came on behalf of the farmers of Niger State to say thank you to the lawmaker for the good work he is doing that is helping the farmer governor as well as the president.

Hashim who is the national coordinator of All Farmers Alliance for Tinubu Renewed Hope Re-Election said all the farmers of Niger state deems it fit to show their appreciation by purchasing the forms for the House of Representatives member as well as the governor.

Responding, the lawmaker, Hon. Sa’idu Musa Abdullahi, appreciated the farmers for the gesture and assured them that, he will continue to support them in anyway to utilise the vast agricultural potentials of Niger State as being projected by Governor Umar Bago.

He said, “I think there is nothing that can be more gratifying to the mind than what we have seen here this evening. We are like ambassadors, messengers of the people. They have sent us here to come and represent them. We’re going all out to ensure that we do not disappoint them.

“It was born out of confidence. Their confidence in us is what brought us here. We have tried to make the most of the privilege, the real privilege of representing them here.

“Even today, I had serious engagement with some major stakeholders in the country. I met with the vice president. I met with the minister of finance. It’s all centred. The discussions we had were centred on how we can better the lives of our people. As a government, we are concerned.

“You know, the government has embarked on very, very necessary reforms. We’re interested in seeing that the results of the reforms start trickling down to the grassroots. So we’re working together with major stakeholders to ensure that the right thing is done for the betterment of our people”.
