A group, the Foundation for Accuracy, Integrity and Respect (FAIR), has applauded the emergence of former Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi, as the vice presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the forthcoming 2027 general election.

FAIR, in a statement issued in Port Harcourt yesterday by its Executive Director, Onyeche Wofurum Igwe, described Amaechi’s nomination as a vindication of the timeless adage that “a golden fish has no hiding place.”

The group argued that competence, sagacity and unwavering commitment inevitably propel deserving individuals to the pinnacle of public service.

It expressed confidence that the former Rivers State governor would deploy his extensive experience in the discharge of his responsibilities.

The statement recalled Amaechi’s tenure as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, two-term governor of Rivers State and Minister of Transportation under successive federal administrations.

The foundation described the former governor as a political colossus who has weathered numerous storms within Nigeria’s political landscape.

It expressed optimism that he would once again “bell the cat” on the national stage, deploying his trademark perspicacity and statesmanship to strengthen the country’s governance architecture.

FAIR also used the occasion to advance a broader national discourse, declaring that Nigeria has transcended the parochialism of ethnic interests and insisting that the country’s diversity constitutes its greatest strategic advantage rather than a fault line.

It maintained that the clarion call of the present era is the enthronement of competence, integrity and equity as the primary criteria for leadership selection.

The statement further argued that the era of mediocrity must give way to meritocracy if Nigeria is to achieve sustainable development.

While describing nation-building as a herculean task that demands intellectual dexterity and moral rectitude, the group urged citizens and political actors alike to eschew short-term gratification in favour of long-term institutional consolidation.
