A political pressure group based in Bauchi, the Bauchi South Concerned Citizens Movement, has urged the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, to contest the 2027 governorship election in Bauchi State.

The group, which aligns with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), made the call yesterday during a consultative meeting aimed at strategizing for the 2027 gubernatorial race.

The group emphasised the need for fairness and inclusivity in the state’s political leadership.

Speaking at the meeting, APC elder statesman Abdullahi Usman Matori stressed the importance of zoning, advocating that the next governor should emerge from Bauchi North senatorial district.

He noted that since 1999, the governorship has been dominated by candidates from Bauchi South, and urged a shift in the interest of equity.

Matori highlighted the importance of the APC winning the seat in 2027 and pledged to rally stakeholders behind Tuggar’s candidacy.

He also listed key developmental projects that the next governor should prioritise, including the realisation of the Kafin Zaki Dam, the Kolmani oil exploration, and the completion of the Waya Hydropower Dam.

Another speaker, Bala Juwara, praised Tuggar’s political track record, describing him as well-suited for the role due to his distinguished service as a former member of the House of Representatives, Ambassador, and currently a minister.

“We are confident in Tuggar’s capacity to lead. He has served all segments of Bauchi State commendably, even though he hails from the North Senatorial Zone,” Juwara said, urging members to intensify grassroots mobilization efforts.

Former Bogoro local government chairperson Hon. Simon Taimako also endorsed Tuggar, applauding the group’s commitment to unity and inclusion and expressing confidence in Tuggar’s qualifications and leadership qualities.

Adding her voice, Hajiya Maimuna supported the call for Tuggar’s candidacy while emphasising that women should not be sidelined in the political process. She assured that women would mobilise en masse to support the minister if he declared interest.

The Bauchi South Concerned Citizens Movement chairman, Musa G. Khalid, said the movement was founded to promote unity and peaceful coexistence in the state. He reiterated the need for power rotation and described Tuggar as a unifying figure with broad support across the state.

“We are convinced Ambassador Tuggar is the most qualified to lead Bauchi State in 2027. His political pedigree is unmatched,” Khalid concluded.
