2027: INEC Begins Public Display Of Candidates’ Credentials In Lagos Saturday

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that the public display of personal particulars submitted by candidates contesting the 2027 presidential, senatorial and House of Representatives elections in Lagos State will commence on Saturday, August 1, 2026.

The exercise, the commission said, is in compliance with Section 29 of the Electoral Act 2022, which mandates the publication of candidates’ credentials for public scrutiny before the elections.

This was contained in a statement issued on Friday by the Head of Voter Education and Publicity, Lagos State, Mrs Esther Emeh.

According to the commission, the candidates’ documents will be displayed at the INEC Lagos State Office in Sabo-Yaba as well as the commission’s Local Government Area offices in the affected constituencies.

INEC explained that the documents are contained in Form EC9, which includes candidates’ credentials, personal information and affidavits submitted by their respective political parties.

“Form EC9 contains the credentials, personal particulars and affidavits submitted by candidates sponsored by political parties,” the commission stated.

The electoral umpire urged political parties, candidates, civil society organisations, stakeholders and members of the public to take advantage of the exercise by inspecting the documents during the display period.

It also reminded Nigerians that anyone who discovers false information, forged documents or any other irregularity in the particulars submitted by a candidate can seek legal redress in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022.

INEC reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability and the conduct of free, fair and credible elections as preparations for the 2027 general elections continue.

The public display of candidates’ particulars is a statutory requirement under Nigeria’s electoral framework aimed at giving citizens and stakeholders the opportunity to verify information submitted by political parties and their candidates before the polls.

As part of preparations for the 2027 general elections, INEC has continued to implement key electoral activities, including candidate nominations, documentation and other voter-related processes.

Section 29 of the Electoral Act 2022 requires the commission to publish candidates’ personal particulars for public inspection and provides an opportunity for eligible persons to challenge any false declaration through the courts.
