The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has said the 2027 general election will be a contest between Nigerians and the All Progressives Congress, APC-led government, rather than between political parties.

Obi said the election would be different from the 2023 poll, when Nigerians, according to him, trusted the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, under its then Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, to conduct a credible election.

The former Anambra State governor made the remarks in an interview with Arise Television aired on Thursday.

Obi maintained that Nigerians would ensure that the right thing was done in the 2027 election.

He said, “This election, remember, is not about parties but it’s the people versus the government. Nigeria must get it right this time.

“In 2023, we took things for granted and we believed INEC. We believed that what they were saying they would do because the chairman then was busy jumping all over the world, telling the world that he and his team were prepared to do the right thing when he was actually working for the opposite.

“This time, we will only trust them by doing the right thing, and of course, we have proof that the INEC chairman was working for the opposite, and even he knows in his heart.

“That’s in the past, as those who think about yesterday would miss tomorrow.”
