The Kogi East Political and Good Governance Group (KEPGGG) has endorsed Okutepa Usman Danladi for the Kogi East senatorial seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The group announced the endorsement in a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja, saying the decision followed extensive consultations and an assessment of political realities in the district.
According to KEPGGG, the endorsement was informed by both historical and contemporary political dynamics in Kogi East, particularly issues of equity and fair representation among the federal constituencies.
The group noted that Kogi East had consistently produced governors of the state until 2015, when political power shifted to the central senatorial district, a development it said has affected the region’s influence in state politics.
It further observed that by the end of the tenure of Jibrin Isah, Dekina/Bassa Federal Constituency would have held the senatorial seat for 18 years, while Ankpa Federal Constituency has completed eight years of representation. Idah Federal Constituency, it added, is yet to produce a senator.
KEPGGG said the situation underscores the need to promote equity, fairness, and inclusion in the distribution of political offices within the district.
Describing Danladi, Chief Executive Officer of DABAH Homes Limited, as a credible and capable candidate, the group said his experience and grassroots appeal position him to provide effective representation.
“His leadership qualities, professional background, and connection with the people make him a strong candidate for the Senate,” the statement said.
The group also called on residents of Kogi East to resist what it described as “politics of surrogacy,” urging political parties to prioritise competence, credibility, and experience in the selection of candidates.
KEPGGG emphasised that its endorsement is non-partisan and driven by a commitment to unity, development, and good governance in the district.
It added that supporting candidates with proven capacity remains key to advancing the collective interests of the people of Kogi East.
