Ahead of the 2027 general elections, traditional rulers and stakeholders in Kwara North Senatorial District have pledged their support for candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) across the board.
The monarchs emphasised their commitment to the election of the Kwara APC governorship candidate, Engr. Yakubu Danladi-Salihu.
They gave the assurance during an engagement between Kwara North traditional rulers and political stakeholders held in Bode Saadu, the headquarters of Moro Local Government Area of the state.
The well-attended engagement was themed “Kwara Project 2027: A Path Towards Sustainable Unity and a More Prosperous Kwara.”
Convened by the Etsu Patigi, Alhaji Ibrahim Umar Bologi II, who also serves as the vice chairman of the Kwara State Traditional Council, the gathering attracted traditional rulers from the five local government areas in Kwara North, members of the state House of Assembly, council chairmen, political officeholders, community leaders and other critical stakeholders.
In his remarks, the Etsu Patigi, Alhaji Ibrahim Umar Bologi II, expressed appreciation for what he described as the political progress recorded by Kwara North.
“History has repeated itself today. We were here in 2024 to plead with Mr President and the Federal Government to support our agenda. We are here today to officially thank President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and our amiable governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON, for fulfilling their promise to Kwara North and the entire people of Kwara State.
“We are sincerely grateful for this opportunity given to Kwara North. We also wish to acknowledge the support of the Emir of Ilorin, Dr Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, CFR, as well as our brothers, the traditional rulers from Kwara South, and all stakeholders working for the progress of Kwara State,” he said.
Bologi noted that the emergence of Danladi-Salihu as the APC governorship candidate had strengthened Kwara North’s sense of political representation ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
He urged the people of Kwara North and Kwarans in general to support Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, citing his administration’s monumental achievements.
“As the 2027 general elections approach, it is important for us to unite, engage our communities peacefully and promote responsible participation in the democratic process so that the APC and all its candidates, from the president to the state House of Assembly, emerge victorious at the polls,” he added.
Other traditional rulers who spoke in turn echoed the Etsu Patigi’s message and reaffirmed their commitment to working for the victory of President Tinubu, Governor AbdulRazaq, Speaker Danladi-Salihu and all APC candidates in the forthcoming general elections.
In his remarks, the APC governorship candidate, Engr. Danladi-Salihu, expressed gratitude to the traditional rulers and the people of Kwara North for their support, guidance and goodwill.
He also commended President Tinubu and Governor AbdulRazaq for standing by the people of Kwara North when it mattered most, assuring them that their gesture would be reciprocated with massive votes from the region.
Making a strong declaration about his ambition, Danladi-Salihu drew a comparison with President Tinubu’s political slogan during the 2023 presidential election.
He recalled Tinubu’s famous declaration, “Emi lo kan” (“It is my turn”), and presented his own message to the people of Kwara State, reaffirming that it was Kwara North’s turn to produce the next governor of the state.
“I am not just contesting to be the governor of Kwara State; I want to be the governor of Kwara State, and I will be the governor,” he declared.
