2027: Obasanjo Favors Obi-Kwankwaso Ticket, Atiku Will Be President If Destined – Momodu

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has said former President Olusegun Obasanjo appears to favour a possible Peter Obi-Rabiu Kwankwaso ticket ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking on News Central TV on Monday, the former presidential candidate also disclosed that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar will become Nigeria’s president if he is destined to occupy the position.

Momodu, a former presidential aspirant and publisher of Ovation magazine, said information available to him suggested that Obasanjo might be backing former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, and former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, rather than Atiku.

According to him, Obasanjo’s reported preference for an Obi-Kwankwaso ticket was surprising, given the political history between the former president and Atiku, who served as president and vice president respectively between 1999 and 2007.

Momodu said: “From what I have read and heard from impeccable sources, it is obvious that Obasanjo might be supporting a former governor Peter Obi and Kwankwaso ticket.”

He added that he had believed the longstanding disagreement between Obasanjo and Atiku had been resolved after the former president supported Atiku’s presidential bid in the 2019 election.

“I thought the issue had been laid to rest in 2019, so I do not know what resurrected that bitter feud between both of them,” he said.

However, Momodu maintained that Obasanjo’s reported preference would not necessarily determine the outcome of the 2027 presidential election.

He said Atiku’s political destiny could still see him emerge as Nigeria’s president, regardless of opposition from influential political figures.

“If Atiku is destined to be President of Nigeria, no force will be able to stop it,” Momodu said.

The ADC chieftain had previously spoken about the 2027 presidential contest, which is expected to feature major political figures, including President Bola Tinubu, Atiku and Obi.
