The Omoluabi Movement, a prominent political group in Ogun State, has rebranded itself as the Yayi Progressives Movement (YPM) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

This change, according to the group’s convener, Armstrong Akintunde, reflects an evolution in the group’s political philosophy.

Akintunde also said the movement is entering a new phase after successfully achieving its previous political objectives.

He stressed that members of the rebranded group are committed to supporting all the candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State, from the presidential race to the State House of Assembly, with a particular emphasis on backing Senator Solomon Adeola (Yayi)’s bid for governor in 2027.

The convener described the Yayi Progressives Movement as a unified grassroots platform comprising artisans, professionals, youth groups, and politically conscious stakeholders, as well as 17 additional groups committed to Ogun State’s ongoing development within the progressive political tradition.

He also highlighted that the group now has over 30,000 members, showing its growing influence as more groups join.

“The leadership of the Omoluabi Movement hereby announces its official transition and rebranding into the Yayi Progressives Movement (YPM) in Ogun State. As a leading grassroots political platform, the Movement finds it important to inform the public and stakeholders about this strategic shift,” the statement read.

Akintunde clarified that this change marks a move from the Dapo Abiodun Continuity Agenda (DACA) to a broader political platform aligned with new developments ahead of the 2027 elections.

He explained that before the 2023 elections, the movement operated under DACA, established to support the re-election of Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON.

During that period, he mobilised a platform that mobilised widespread grassroots backing based on the government’s performance and its commitment to campaign promises, which many believe helped improve governance in the state.

The statement further stated that the Yayi Progressives Movement aims to increase grassroots participation and promote progressive values rooted in inclusiveness, civic responsibility, and accountable leadership.
