2027: Only Goodluck Jonathan Can Rescue Nigeria – Coalition

The National Coalition for Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has urged former President Goodluck Jonathan to contest the 2027 polls, saying he’s the only rallying force and hope for Nigerians.

Speaking to journalists yesterday in Abuja when the coalition led a mammoth crowd to GEJ’s Maitama residence, the national president, Dr Tom Ohikere, said he was there on behalf of Nigerians, to beg Jonathan to consider their demand and come to the rescue of the nation.

Ohikere said he led the coalition in presenting a letter of invitation to the former president to contest in the forthcoming election.

The former commissioner for Information in Kogi State, during the administration of Goodluck Jonathan, said they wanted him to say something and publicly declare his aspirations.

He said, “So I’m going to read the copy of the letter we sent to him.

“His Excellency, former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan GCFR. I am most humbled and privileged to lead a delegation of our members, representing millions of Nigerians from all 36 states, and to deliver this message to you on their behalf.

“This message is short, direct and simple. Nigerians have asked us to plead with you to come to the rescue of our nation by declaring your interest in contesting for the presidency in 2027.

“Everywhere that we have visited in the course of our nationwide consultation over the period of the last six months, the clamour for the return of the ex-president Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to come to power to rescue our country has been loud and unmistakable.

“Nigerians are lamenting the current state of despair, homelessness and disunity in the country. They see the ex-president as the only unifying force capable of reversing the catastrophe looming over the country.

“Nigerians are asking him to declare now for the 2027 presidential contest.

They are prepared and determined to come out in their millions to support and vote massively for Goodluck Jonathan. This is the message from across the 36 states and the FCT.”

Asked why he thinks the former president is capable of rescuing Nigeria from the many challenges it is facing, Ohikere said Jonathan possesses innate tendencies, leadership qualities, and virtues, coupled with his past antecedents and pedigree, which have demonstrated that he is the only good man.

According to him, Jonathan has ruled this country for four good years, and his achievements are still there for all to see.

“We know the price of a bag of rice. We know how many barrels of crude oil were exchanged for dollars. We know, and we know how much all these things are going for in the market now.

“Goodluck Jonathan is a confirmed replacement for the present messy situation we are facing in Nigeria. He is going to declare in the next few days, and he is going to announce the platform himself,” the National Coalition for Goodluck Ebele Jonathan stated.

Also, the National Secretary of the coalition, Dr Jibunusho Umetafa, said yesterday was a call on the former president to contest.

He said the level of insecurity, hunger and destabilisation of the people living in Nigeria are issues that need tackling.

“It’s like when Mr Jonathan was going, he went with democracy. Democracy has gone, and that’s why we are here, for him to restore democracy in our country.

“We know what is happening in our area. People are not in their homes. We cannot sleep with our eyes closed

“Most of us have been destabilised. At least, if we can have somebody like him, who has the people and our country in his mind, we definitely know that this country will be in good shape. People are waiting for him, especially in the north.”

Umetafa, who said he’s from the northern part of the country, far north-west, expressed anger over what he described as banditry in the zone.

“The area is destabilised. We have no politician who can restore this country better than Jonathan. And we are sure he is the only person who is capable of handling the democracy of this country.”

Another speaker, Dr Amodu Samson Abacha.said there was a protest to remove former President Jonathan, then, because of insecurity.

However, he said, by statistics, then and now, if he would turn his face to the tumultuous crowd behind and ask, ‘When was Nigeria safer?’ You will hear a very loud and astounding sound that Nigeria was safer during Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.

“I travelled the country with him in 2015. He is a pure, genuine Democrat. It shows that the man actually has something the others don’t.

“When the results were yet to be declared, he admitted and congratulated the then President  Muhammadu Buhari. So he’s a man with human milk of kindness, and this kind of person can unify the country. He will bring the people together.

“So we are here as a people representing Nigeria, the entirety of Nigeria, that he should come. He’s the right person because he has been there before. And it is a trend that has gone around the globe.

“We have the President of America, who was there before, and now he’s back in America. We have that of Ghana.

“We have numerous of them across the globe. So it is actually a wind of change across the world’s continents. So we are saying that he’s a man Nigeria will trust.

“He’s a man who can pilot the affairs of this country without any bias. So that is just the simple reason we have come to ask him to throw his hat into the ring and let the foot soldiers do the work.”
