Governors elected on the platform of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Monday, rose from their meeting in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, where they unanimously rejected possible merger or coalition with any political party for the purpose wrestling power in 2027 general election.

The PDP Governors Forum (PDP-GF), in a communique signed by its chairman and governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, resolved not to join any coalition or merger arrangement with any political party, groups or associations.

They, however, noted that PDP as a major party, it welcomed any party, persons or groups willing to join forces with a view to wrestling power and enthroning good leadership in 2027.

The PDP governors also bemoaned the alarming spate of insecurity in the country, especially in Borno, Katsina and Edo States.

The Forum called for a review of priorities and strategies, including adopting a bottom-up measures that guarantees sub-nationals the capacity to constitute an effective line of action against security breaches.

While condemning the recent attacks in Plateau State, the Forum also commiserated with the government and people of the state, especially those who lost their loved ones and properties during the unfortunate incidents.

The Forum also reiterated its position taken in Asaba, the Delta State capital, on the issue of the national secretary of the party.

It, however, recommended in the wake of the Supreme Court judgement that the Deputy National Secretary of the party acts as National Secretary pending the nomination and ratification of a substantive secretary from the South-East Zone of the PDP at its next meeting.
