The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has moved to strengthen its nationwide political structures, bringing chairmen from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory together with its National Working Committee (NWC) as preparations for the 2027 general elections intensify.
The meeting, held on Tuesday at the party’s national secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Abuja, signals an attempt by the opposition party to improve coordination between its national leadership and state chapters ahead of another major electoral contest.
National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed, urged the state chairmen to work closely with the NWC, stressing the need for discipline, constitutional compliance and effective coordination across the party’s structures.
He assured members that the national leadership would adhere to the party’s constitution in conducting its affairs, including caucus and expanded meetings.
Mohammed also expressed confidence in the candidates produced through the party’s nomination exercises for the various elective positions ahead of the 2027 elections.
Chairman of the PDP State Chairmen’s Forum, Austin Nwachukwu, pledged the state chapters’ support for the national leadership, describing the chairmen as ready to implement decisions aimed at strengthening the party.
The meeting also provided an opportunity for the state chairmen to raise concerns over alleged intimidation of opposition politicians in some states, particularly Ebonyi, where the forum said it had intervened and was considering further engagement with security agencies.
