A Federal Capital Territory (FCT) senatorial aspirant on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Amb. Dr. Mubarak Ahmad Tijjani, has approached the Federal High Court in Abuja to challenge the conduct and outcome of the party’s senatorial primary election held on May 21, 2026.

In the suit filed through an Originating Summons, Tijjani is seeking judicial interpretation of provisions of the Electoral Act 2026 (as amended) and relevant sections of the ADC constitution relating to the conduct of party primary elections.

The legal action questions the process that produced the party’s candidate for the FCT Senatorial District, alleging irregularities, disruption of the exercise and diversion of electoral materials.

The suit also joined the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and seeks an order restraining the commission and the national leadership of the ADC from recognising, accepting or submitting the name of Senator Ireti Kingibe, or any other individual, as the party’s candidate pending the determination of the case.

According to the campaign organisation, in a statement made available to journalists in Abuja on Tuesday said electoral materials designated for the primary election were allegedly moved from approved voting centres to another location in Gudu, Abuja.

The organisation further alleged that Tijjani was attacked by suspected armed individuals after attempting to engage members of the Primary Election Committee over the development.

It claimed the incident resulted in injuries that required emergency medical attention and specialist treatment.

Despite the development, the campaign maintained that the aspirant remains committed to pursuing legal redress and defending what it described as the integrity of the electoral process.

The organisation also stated that it had formally written to the National Legal Adviser of the ADC to decline participation in any parallel internal review process while the matter remains before the court, citing the principle of sub judice.

The campaign office expressed confidence in the judiciary and said the legal process would be allowed to run its course.

The campaign appealed to supporters, delegates and residents of the FCT to remain calm, peaceful and law-abiding as the judicial process continues.
