Former senator representing Daura Senatorial District in Katsina State, Ahmed Baba Kaita, has declared that the 2027 general elections will be a battle between impoverished citizens and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) which he accused of deepening hardship and failing to deliver real relief.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting with Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidates who contested in the last local government elections in Katsina State, Baba Kaita rallied support for a new coalition movement poised to challenge the APC’s hold on power in the next political cycle.

“The 2027 election is not just another political contest; it will be between the poor masses and the APC. People have suffered enough in hardship and difficulty, and this movement is about giving them a voice and a choice,” Baba Kaita told the gathering.

The former senator disclosed that the coalition movement would soon decide which political platform to adopt for the 2027 elections, with a crucial meeting scheduled for the 26th of this month.

He also took a swipe at the Katsina State Government, alleging that despite receiving record allocations from the federation account, it has failed to significantly improve the living conditions of ordinary citizens.

Baba Kaita did not spare his own party either, admitting that the PDP is currently riddled with internal disunity both nationally and locally. He lamented that he does not even know the PDP chairman in his own local government, highlighting procedural irregularities within the party’s state structure.

He urged PDP loyalists and coalition supporters to remain united, transparent, and respectful to strengthen the new movement’s credibility and win the trust of the electorate.

The coalition, which is attracting stakeholders across party lines, aims to mobilise the grassroots and provide a credible alternative to the APC, which Baba Kaita said has lost touch with the realities facing millions of Nigerians.

“We are not doing this for ourselves but for the ordinary people who deserve better governance and dignity,” he emphasised.

Political observers believe the coming months will reveal whether the coalition can maintain momentum and present a formidable challenge to the ruling party in what many expect to be a high-stakes election in 2027.
